Definition of Dedicated Hosting

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are 3 main varieties - shared hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web hosting servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared hosting servers host plenty of clients and hence the resources per hosting account are limited, virtual private server packages give you more server configuration autonomy, but also influence other private virtual web servers on the hardware node if utilized unwisely, and dedicated servers offer you the chance to perform everything you see fit without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated hosting server?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more high-priced than shared hosting servers or private virtual web servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is pretty simple. If your firm has a heavy resource-swallowing online portal, or simply has very exact server configuration requirements, the most reasonable choice would be a dedicated server. For someone who is ready to invest in security and stability, the greater price is not a problem. You receive full root privileges and can utilize 100 percent of the dedicated hosting web server's resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and interfering with your web portals.

Hardware architectures

The majority of web hosting corporations, incl. us at Zeta Hosting, offer several hardware architectures you can select from as per your necessities. The hardware architectures include different varieties of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard disk sizes and different monthly bandwidth allowances. You can select a web hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient user interface if you would like to utilize the dedicated hosting server for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to use an SSH console for all the changes you will be making. We offer three kinds of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server via a Secure Shell console exclusively. That, however, could be awkward, even more so if you want to give complete root-level access to someone else who has less technical expertise than yourself. That is why having web hosting Control Panel software pre-activated is a great idea. The Hepsia Control Panel GUI that we provide does not offer complete root access and is mainly suitable for somebody who has a lot of web pages that devour lots of resources, but would rather manage the web portals, databases and mailbox aliases through a user-friendly web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root privileges and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting packages instead of utilizing the dedicated server solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a downtime, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring platform activated. Here at Zeta Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated hosting server as well. Backups are also an extra feature - the web hosting supplier offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would allow you to save the very same data on 2 hard disks as a precaution in case of a hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete server root access erases something by mistake.
